New Chemo Miracle Drug - Ginger
Ginger, long as a folk remedy for soothing tummy aches, helped tame one of the most dreaded side effects of cancer treatment - nausea from chemotherapy, the first large study to test the herb has found.
Participants who began taking ginger capsules days before their chemo infusions suffered fewer and less severe bouts of nausea afterward then those given dumy capsules, according to the federally funded study.
"We were slightly beside ourselves,: study leader Julie Ryan, of the University of Rochester, said the results, released by the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
But don't reach for the ginger ale. Many sodas and cookies only contain flavoring, not real ginger, Ryan noted.
